Students are aware of the importance of SMPS with regard to improvements of efficiencies, improvements in power density and reduction of grid perturbations. This is mediated in particular with the self dependent design and implementation of three different SMPS in the laboratory. The course is orientated on the modern state of the art of SMPS in industry and automotive applications as well as in consumer products. * Proactive analytic handling in the specialized power electronics topic. The Students can describe, analyze and assess different circuits. * The knowledge is developped with the following contents * Problems of classical power supplies: Weight of a 50Hz transformer, losses in fixed voltage controller, grid perturbations * Devices for SMPS: MOSFET, driver, controller IC, inductance, capacitors, transformers * Fundamental circuits of SMPS: Buck Converter, Bost Converter, Buck-Boost Converter all with transfer characteristics in both continuous and discontinuous conduction mode. * Forward converter: Functionality and description of operation behavior of a circuit. Transferable power of a transformer, Design variations and application fields. * Flyback converter: Sperrwander: Functionality and description of operation behavior of the circuit. Strored energy in the airgap, auxiliaury power, output voltage controls, converter with multiple outputs, importance of stray inductance. * Series resonant convcerter: Half bridge circuits and their control, limits of transferable power, series resonant circuit, functionality of series resonant converter ---+++++ Acquired Skills * Proactive analytic handling in the specialized power electronics topic. The Students can sythesize a converter in important aspects. * The aquired skills are developped with the following contents * Problems of classical power supplies: Weight of a 50Hz transformer, losses in fixed voltage controller, grid perturbations * Devices for SMPS: MOSFET, driver, controller IC, inductance, capacitors, transformers * Fundamental circuits of SMPS: Buck Converter, Bost Converter, Buck-Boost Converter all with transfer characteristics in both continuous and discontinuous conduction mode. * Forward converter: Functionality and description of operation behavior of a circuit. Characterization of the operation by measurement using an oscilloscope, current probes and an electronic load. * Design and implementation of a flyback converter including a multi-terminal transformer. Characterization of the inductance of the integrated transformer, characterization of efficiency and transfer characteristics. * Design and implementation of a series.resonant converter including transformer. Setiing of frequencies, design and tuning of the resonant circuit, Characterization of the transfer characteristics with and without resonance. ---++++ Additional Component Assessment <sticky> <table border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0"> <th colspan="2">Type</th> <tr> <td>bSZ</td> <td>Praktikumstestat</td> </tr> </table> </sticky> <sticky> <table border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0"> <th colspan="2">Contribution to course grade</th> <tr> <td>bSZ</td> <td>Ist Voraussetzung zur summarischen Modulprüfung</td> </tr> </table> </sticky> *Frequency:* 1/Jahr %ENDSECTION{"Praktikum"}% %ENDSECTION{"no_toc"}%
